Just drove her on the road for the first time. Turns out, 46hp does not a fast car make. She really does feel amazing though, and I couldn’t be happier

get rid of the bumpers and the thing would weigh 150lbs less! just kidding. Beautiful car love the color. is it fuel injected?
I would be really tempted to ditch the bumpers and the turn signals and try to back date it. then header and disc brakes and dual carbs.

Thanks! She’s carbed as fuck, and I’m planning on keeping her all original. She’s got 57k OG miles, and is mostly original (only non-original thing is the paint, which is a respray in the original color), so I’m loathe to change too much on her.

Aw, you don’t want to rip the transmission off of its bearings?

Actually, I was initially shopping for a Squareback to do just that to. Damn low-mileage Karmann Ghias falling into my lap.

My dad used to have one that exact same color. He called it “The Pickle.” I’m not sure of the year, though. My brother could tell you. He drove the snot out of it. Just before I got my license my dad traded it in for an ‘82 Rabbit. Which I then drove the snot out of. The Rabbit was great, but it didn’t have the character of The Pickle.

But it is so much faster than that old 44hp motor they use to use.

I love the car so far, but man I could not have it as an only car. It doesn’t much like hills. Fantastic car to drive, though!

you can pull out the OG engine and if you want to DD it, buy a turnkey 1776 or bigger to really get around.

She’s a beaut!
My friend’s dad had a Karmann Ghia vert back in college. He drove it until it literally broke in half due to rust. I’d kill for a Ghia!

Dad’s was a ‘71. Way more elegant bumpers and, IMHO, a way prettier tail. Dad’s had factory add-on air conditioning, which died, and which I removed. I have no idea where the evaporator or condenser might have been. Dad drove his out west from Michigan a couple of times, 80 mph with the A/C running, and by the time I got to start abusing it, there were no rings left and the thing would put out a CLOUD of blue smoke when you started it in the morning. But except for the battery terminal coming loose on it once, it was incredibly dependable. We’d pile five people in that car and drive ALL OVER THE PLACE.
